North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
In 1997, a new system NAICS was developed to replace the 1987 SIC system. NAICS was developed to provide new comparability in statistics about business activity across the three North America countries. NAICS codes contain six numerical digits. The codes were updated in 2002 and partially revised and updated again in 2017 (see link).
